Set
in the year 2033, the story revolves around Leland Frank, a country and
western singer in the tradition of Hank Williams.
He travels the land with
his band, the Radiators and a small puppet theatre entertaining the folks in
those post plague times. He does, that is, until he gets accidentally
lynched by a right-wing religious cult and is dead for seven minutes.
The
Ministry of Health which has taken over power is working on the technology
to tap into (& eradicate) people’s dreams & Leland is nothing if
not a dreamer.
Another central character in the story is Sonny Abilene a
revolutionary poet and theatre man who illegally broadcasts his creations on
the Ministry controlled net.
